They use to be over on around 65th & Folsom Blvd when I was a much younger guy and then they closed. I was very unhappy about it but recently I discovered they had actually moved to around 48th & J Street.

Wish I had know that for the past 20 years I went without my Pastys.

Bill,

There are also a couple of Pasty Shack places in Grass Valley. I'm using the name generically. One is downtown just off town square, and the other is across the highway.

Yep, we've been to both of them several times,
Tony

Oops, I seem to remember one in Downeville too.

Mmmmmmm, Pasties.=P~

My family has patronized the Pasty Shack for many years. It was a good substitute for the time between when my Grandma would make hers. Now it's our only fix since she's been gone a while, and none of us can get her recipe just right.

Cornish is my favorite.

There is a Winery(Satiety??) on 113 between Davis and Woodland that makes Pasties, but I have yet to stop and try 'em.

If I'm not mistaken, the origin of the Pasty was to provide a hearty energy rich food for the miners throughout the "gold country", right? Something that would be packed into the mine....

Miners meal, yes, but originated in Great Britain. My Grandma was shown how to make them by an Irish immigrant, and I used to have contact with some people in Wales who told me they were the usual meal for miners over there. They also said that a "true" Pasty was made with turnips, not potatoes; and that they were usually made half meat and whatever, and the other half a jam or something for "dessert".

Very good insight...

And, by your description of the "true" Pasty, it was quite the "all in one" meal. Fantastic.

Love the Pasty Shack (Bill the owner is a great guy - like Bill Kiene). You can buy a pasty, take it into Club Too Me, order a beer, and have your pasty at the bar while you're watching the baseball game. Heck, you can even get a good haircut at the barbershop next door. That's a good day in my book.
