Hit up a small pond with Phil on Saturday. This pond's got a big population of small LMB as well as a some Green Sunfish.
There's a moderate but very scenic walk into pond, but look at what you get when you arrive.

It's a small pond, barely enough room for two tubes.

Conditions where great, for the fish. Dark overcast with almost constant rain.

Here's Phil setting up, the rain has just started.

Started hitting them almost immediately, had 2 released before Phil even got in the water. We only used topwater flies all afternoon. Size 8 Little Bass Frogs and Hopper Poppers were the ticket. Great blow-ups for such small bass. The biggest I've seen were about a pound, maybe they'll get bigger with time, maybe not. I used a 3wt and it was a blast.

Phil decided to wean himself off of his lucky shorts but it took a while to shake that jinx off. Once he was free of it he started hitting them regularly also.

Here's the only fish pic I took, obviously there's more to fishing this pond than the size of the fish.

After about 3 hrs of non-stop rain the skies finally parted for some beautiful scenery.

The fish are in the flooded grass. On one cast I let my frog splat just inside the grass edge and watched as a fish moved the grass stems coming in for the kill. What a rush.

I was getting cold by the time we left so the walk back to the truck was a welcome warm up. Then a beer and bite to eat before the drive back.

Good times indeed.

Nice Ed, the area looks familiar, is it where we went last? I can see your camo shorts on under your waders Phil.

RAIN JACKETS!!!!! Again, we go fishing minus proper clothing.#-o

Darn good thing it was semi-warm, and the fish were biting, because that was some miserable weather without the proper gear.

That turned out to be one heck of a fun day. We stopped at a Blue Gill pond on the way...rid ourselves of the possibility of skunk. Then on to bigger and better things.

The intent was to harass the little guys, then move on to where we know there are bigger fish. But, by the time we took a break it was 6:30. Dilemma, walk a while for the big boys(killing daylight), who may or may not be active; or stay on the bite with the little guys? Unanimous decision, stay put. They weren't quite as active when the rain stopped, but they were still very accommodating. Several doubles, and lots of laughter from both tubes.:D

I have to correct some info though, you know how the memory gets with age.:-P I started off with a Deer Hair diver tied on a heavy hook, so it worked sub-surface; promptly got two blow ups, then nothing. Nothing for about 45mins., despite changing up a few times to different colored poppers. All the while, someone else is catching fish left and right; while changing flies constantly. And the thing about Green Sunnies, well that is just a rumor for now; since neither one of us caught one, I can not confirm nor deny their presence in said pond.:p

Hmmm, it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Bass fishing, anyone:question::)

Okay Mr. Memory, they are Deer Hair Divers, not poppers. So :p.

I bought a dozen divers off ebay last year. It turned out they were tied on such heavy hooks that while they did dive, they just never came back up. Instead they would turn sideways and suspend at the end of the strip.
They worked like a charm.
You can see it splat, then strip, under the water it goes. Strip, pause, strip, pause. thing disappears and you set for Moe.

Someones tying accident turned into my bonanza.

As for the Sunnies, well, um, Scotty can verify.
I think the shock of seeing Phil actually fishing just stunned them into total paralysis.:shock: As it almost did me. :D

Phil, the float tube makes you look good, you should wear it more often.
