A Tani with a Humbug buzz, now that's a cool grab shot J!

I've never seen a Lewis in the wild. They sure do have an interesting color combo.

Thanks for sharing the birds bud. Were they all in your backyard?
Cheers, Ken

Thanks guys

Ken, The tanagers are in the yard, the Lewis was out in the "meadowlark pasture" on the other side of the valley.

There have been some serious aerial combats going on with the hummers lately. Sometimes you can hear their bodies collide! I saw this happennining around this particular tani but had know idea she came into the frame.

I had never seen a Lewis prior to this day. Curtis has been wanting to get one for some time. We went out to the pasture to see what new birds may have arrived and were really disapointed with the action. We were on our way out and I spotted something out of place on the back side of a fence post. We pulled off and it was the Lewis! He showed us love for about 45 minutes and we each filled a card on this one bird. The thing thats tough is their feathers are irridescent and the bird looks black in 95% of the shots. The light has to be PERFECT to get any color detail.

Hey Jbird. In what general area do you live? The variety of bird pictures
you have posted is amazing.

Ya, the hummers really go at it. I was reading something about them the
other day...it said all of them basically dislike each other. Lol. They even
migrate alone. After the male & female mate, he says sayonara and goes
on his way. Talk about Wam Bam thank you Ma'am. :)

J you're in that perfect flyway location to enjoy the show. Solid fun. Did you ever see the PBS documentary with the inside view of the hummer's world. It is flat out jaw-dropping photography and amazing behavior access. Those little critters are one tough group!

I bet you have lots of opportunity to add to your life list of birds.
Cheers, Ken

I havent seen that show. I will look it up as it sounds to be right in my wheel house.

Ive been here in s. oregon for 14 years and in 2 1/2 weeks, Im moving to Wisconsin. I will have to learn a whole new culture of wildlife and fishing. Pretty excited actually!

Good shots, my wife and I like bird watching, I took the computer to her and asked what kind of bird the Lewis was, I said I'd taken a picture right out the bedroom window. She said "you did not, those are up in Oregon". :D
