Maybe the spawn has slowed somewhat because they've been at it for several weeks now but there seems to be more new fish showing up in the system. Not only that but we've been getting a lot of better fish in the 10-12lb. range.

There is also a variety of other fish being taken while targeting stripers. The past week Jim May took a nice largemouth black bass and then a shad while throwing six inch clousers before he connected with any stripers. Several steelhead have also been taken using minnows and flies while after stripers including one from myself this morning. What a surprise to have a fish go airbourne when you're expecting a striper grab. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/buzolich/IMG_0192email.jpg

The water levels have started to drop the last few days and when this happens the fish seem to shut off for a day or two before adjusting to the new flows. Some of the areas that had several feet of fishable water are now dry so it's time to really start watching for new snags and sandbars if you go out. A good guide is invaluable here. Over on the SAC things have just started to clear and should keep getting better.

Even well experienced striper fishermen are taking up flyfishing too. Here Nick Garcia justed landed his second striper of the day.

The highlight of the day for me was my last striper. I had a small(15-16") shaker on next to the boat and I could see another fish swimming next to it. This often happens with small schoolies but suddenly there was a MUCH bigger striper trying to eat the one on my hook. Two or three times the big fish hit the hooked one and once actually took it into it's mouth. I yelled for Bill to drop his fly, "JUST DROP IT!, but he already had too much line out for a short cast. WHEW! That was exciting and a great way to end another great day.

Nice catches Tony.

I guess you need to tie into a chrome Springer next!

I read reports of unspawned fish caught from the North delta and Sac metro area today, so there could be more good fishing ahead.....? Matt.
