ya should of been here today. My new groups first day on the water and completely different conditions. No wind aaaaaaaalllllllllll day. Got bait in La Ventana from Peat and Repeat then headed to the island to look for yellow tail and dorado.
Found a big school of small to medium size school. My partner Mark from Santa Fe, NM. had a hay day. He must of landed 15 fish in a flash. I landed two then let Efren fish the rest of the time. I have a good case of gout in middle finger on my casting hand. I was using a spey casting grip using the butt of the rod to push the line. But it still hurt. My finger looks like a ball park frank that has been cooked and getting bigger. So it looks like Efren will fish all day tomorrow. After running out of bait, we headed back to Punta Arenas for more bait from the brothers. Then on the way too the lighthouse, Efren saw a school of dorado in the "Costilla" area. Slid in there and I attemptted to case but couldn't. The dorado just weren't in a eating mood. Although one commerical boat dropped a big dorado and then told Jonny the fish was by his boat. After a couple baits, the fish surface and was soon hooked by a rookie. It took him a while to land the fish but it weighed in at 30lbs. Not bad for his first salt water fish. To make a long day short, a 18lb yellow tail, a 20lb Pampano, a few more dorado, lot's of roosters but no 60 lbers. A uncommon fish was also caught today by Mark a blue fin trevally. I'll post some photo's some time next week
And to top it off, we had a whale shark at La Ventana in the shallow water. I got a lot of GoPro footage hopefully it will come out
Supposeably no wind for the next three days but things change
That's my story and damn do I love my job
