Like fisheye said, yesterday was kinda slow for some and OK for other's with the exception of one 60+ rooster. That's the second one this week and we're only 3 days into the trip.
Today was a different story... We are now launching at the lighthouse and running to La Ventana for bait. From there boats go here and there. We went there, there being back south to the channel to check out some sargasso patches. There is a lot of sargasso this year. We spent about an hour looking for dorado in bumpy water, which was smooth as glass on the way out. Only found two big patches but no fish.
We headed back to La Ventana for some more bait from peat and repeat, then we got word that there were dorado at Punta Gorda. On the way we stopped at number of patches to check things out, no go. Efren and Jose were just passed Punta Gorda and had dorado. But half way there, they were on there way back when the radioed that the fish had left the area.
So we started motoring the channel too look for the big sargasso patches. The first one had no dorado. But then we hit the second on and all hell broke loose. Lot's of dorado swimming and eating bait. I slapped the water FISH ON ! my partner hit the water - double hook up. He landed his a little quicker using a 11 wt rod. I had my fish on a 9 wt steel head rod, bent to the butt. There were two big bulls in the crowd which I would say went around 40lbs. But they were big and old those young whippersnappers would be them to the fly. The bite lasted around 5 minutes then they disappeared. Checked a lot more patches and buoys but decided to head to the beach because the north wind was picking up, creating white caps.
Got to the light house and there were 5 boats fishing the area, no one had hooked up on a big rooster so we went straight out and found lot's of sargasso about a 1/2 mile from the beach. We drifted and threw bait for1/2 hour but no dorado. Then while I was half a sleep or maybe I was completely a sleep Romon YELLED OUT - TORO. Damn the whole area exploded into a feeding frenzy. These jacks cut up a big sargasso patch. There had to be at least 150 jacks in the school and I would say they ranged from 25 to maybe 35lbs. We only got one shot at them and they were gone, right now. We tried to find the school but couldn't.

We ended out day looking along the beach for roosters. Spotted two eaters but they didnt
want the fly.

Now here's a report i got from one of my guys.... He fought a fish for 1 houf 45 minutes before it broke off. He said he couldn't budge the fish at all which leads me to think it was one of those big jacks from the school. Then one of his friends landed a big jack but I haven't heard the size. He was on it for an hour.
Fisheye had a 35, 21 and 14lb dorado, all from the Punta Gorda area. So far this week, we've had some big jacks, huge roosters and starting to see some big dorado. This is the big time of the year for the roosters and jacks. Dorado are a little later in the season, but what the heck there here now. If I had my room to myself, I'd have some video and photo's already but with some one rooming with me I can't stay up all night, working.

Fisheye will probably send a report soon

Damn, I love this job - and I mean it.
