Hello

How has fishing been for everyone else ever since opening day? Here's a report from my opening day. I've been quite busy and have yet to have the time to do so. Here's a report to those of you who are anxious to get out and wet a line.

Me and my brother headed out to a place we always wanted to fish, but because of the heavy snow in recent years, we were never able to go.. even though it's fairly close to his house. (2hours) :P

When we first saw the river, it was roaring.. all we saw was white water.. 10 miles up the road.. the water became smoother.. but still a bit high. We take a short hike to this location.....

and decided to wet our lines. I let my brother get the huge run while i fished the edges. Because i took some classes in "how to become a ninja", i did fairly well despite the high flows. There were times when I had to use some crazy ninja powder.. but that's another story.

It took me a few minutes to adjust to the flows, and realize they were hugging bottom. Landed my first fish of the day. (Sorry, I left my net in the car)

Stayed in the same location for another hour or so, until something caught my eye. Right next to the weedbed, was a huge brown. I'd say at least 22 inches minimum (since water makes fish look a tad bigger, cause from top, he looked to be at least 30 inches.. and no im not exaggerating) Big fish are big for a reason, in conclusion, i was unsuccessful in fooling this fish. We decide to move up, and I decided to hop into the water to get a few underwater images.

I laughed when I got home, cause I swear I did not see them in the 2 inch lcd screen. We didn't even fish that area haha.

We decided to go back to the car and have some lunch and beers. Grabbed my net, and just felt refreshed after my beer.

Maybe the beer did me good that day.. cause my brother sure did feel left out. Not 1 hookup for him.

I can't wait till runoff is over. I am heading back this weekend to visit the family/my backyard. Maybe i'll get to play with some friends who enjoy eating fake bugs for a living again.

I am very interested in the rock wall in your picture ( I'm a climber ). Any clues as to where the picture was taken?
Thanks
Tim

Uh yeah...me too. I'm a climber and...um...I'm a plant taxonomist and I'd love to key some of those native grasses in the photos. Can you please tell me where you were fishing er I mean where the photos were taken?? :)

I'm a clim... ya, a birdwatcher, ya, that's it.
Wait a minute, that's more than two hours from Hayward.
Never mind.
Looks sick though....

Nice Putah creek rainbow! ;)

Glad somebody is catching fish. Good job
using the ninja-esque skills Grasshopper.

Actually, I guess you are a Shaolin master now.

I may have dated myself using that one. lol.

And that's why we get the sneak on.
Those that stroll up casually in a white hat/shirt and swing the rod around, get squat.
Dude, master Poe would smile. If he could see that fish..
Looked for, cannot be seen, listened for......

Lol...Master Poe was a bada$$!

Ya, I agree on the sneaking. It's something I should
do much more often. Who knows the hundreds of fish
I have scared off by just walking straight up to a creek
or river like a buffalo in a china shop.

It really shows in small streams like the NF Yuba when
I've walked up to a pool and seen fish darting for cover.

Duh.
