My niece's husband Rob was at the beach on Oahu, where they live, yesterday when a tuna ran right up into shallow water. He grabbed it with his bare hands and took it home for dinner.

They live over on the north side where they do the famous surfing.

Anyone know what kind of tuna this is? We have lots of pictures on our FaceBook page.

Hey Bill, not the best picture, and I can't tell how long the fish has been dead, but it looks like a small tombo ahi, you guys call them albacore. Notice the long pec fin. If the sashimi was kinda light, faded red then it was a tombo. Cool catch, must have been chasing bait and then got confused. Don.

Thats an albacore. Look at the longfin. White meat tuna. Sashimi or cut into 1 1/2"-2' cubes and wrap in bacon and bbg it. Yummy

Thanks guys,,,,,,

I did not think it was a yellow fin tuna because I looked at several other photos.

I think they live across the street from the ocean near the "Pipe Line" where they do all the surfing?

Not only was that probably one of the coolest things to see, a tuna come racing up to you while in the water, but to be able to reach down ad grab. That is a memory that will never be forgotten. And I bet it taste really good.

That is a decent size albacore. I'm really surprised that a green fish like that did not just kick his butt.....
