Before you write it off as one of those nature specials on how amazing the salmon runs are in Alaska and how the bears eat them and all that jazz...take a second to look...

Sadly this ran this night (and 2 in the morning) so if you missed it thats a shame...I'm gonna look for it online somewhere to see if I can find a way for more people to see this one hour special. Its a must see.

Unlike those nature specials....this special focuses on the Columbia River Watershed...and how the salmon runs have been affected. An interesting part was how they clarified that Hatchery Programs are not reviving salmon...take a look if you're interested. This show was VERY VERY good.

It was on at 8pm here in Eureka. It was a great show, as are all the shows in the Nature series. It's always appointment tv for me every Sunday.

When you think about it, Idaho is LONG way from the ocean. They even stated that historical runs actually spawned in some of the streams in northern Nevada! They did a good job describing how the entire ecosystem is affected by the salmon.

I found it very interesting that they were putting carcasses back in the alpine streams and that they could actually find traces of the nutrients in the plants and other species years later. I've always said, if I had to do it all over again, I would've been a fisheries biologist. Very cool job! Kudos to them.....

Highly recommend it. Thanks for (cant remember who?) plugged it on here a while back. I wrote it in my calendar as I don't watch a lot of TV and would have missed it otherwise.

I recorded it so my daughter can watch tonight...
