Watch these video clips above.

He thinks that 6-8 pound Bonefish are average size....well they are in the HI islands. Most other places that is a hog.

For these big fish you really need to be able to cast a long ways with accuracy. Probably not the best place for your first Bonefishing trip. Many other famous places have lots of fish from 1 to 3 pounds that are easier to learn on.

I think these are deeper flats than at many famous Bonefishing destinations so I think they need to fish the bottom of the outgoing to low tide and then the first part of the incoming till it gets too deep to see the fish.

Some years ago we went over from Oahu to Molokai to try to go fishing with a guide out of the Molokai Hotel. When we got there he was on Oahu for a funeral so we just toured the island.

On the low side it has lots of flats and on the high side it has some of the tallest sea cliffs around.

It is very sparsely populated and very quiet and laid back.

I read once that the locals wanted to secede from the United States.

We met a kayak rental company and they said that in August when the seas are calm people go around to the remote high side and kayak and camp the entire length on secluded beaches.

I think it might be the best island for fly fishing.

Aloha Bill, Clay is a good guy and likes to guide tourists to all kinds of fishing, including offshore as well as the flats on Molokai. He sent me an e-mail and got a 12lber last week. It was great he got a spot on Hawaii Goes Fishing, and was able to show how big the bones are on the friendly isle. I think Molokai offers fly fishermen a true adventure type experience, and a chance to fish for some trophy bones. Clay is a TFO guide, and has really taken to flyfishing. Give him a call when you get a chance and are visiting the islands. Mems.

Molokai is a very interesting place. It is rich in history (as are all the islands) Molokai was a designated leper colony not terribly long ago.

Flats look a little softer on that island. I got to fish Oahu w/ Oliver Owens and we were using 25lb test line as tippet material because the bones would dive into the coral. I ended up w/ 2 bones 4-5lbers on my first day and one fish that completely bent the hook on the second day.

Clay Ching called me at the shop yesterday to than me for putting up the post about his guide service.

It was fun talking to him about his fishery.

I will try to get over some time and get out with him.
