any recomendations....can't spend to much, under $250
let me know what is out there
thanks,
Garrett.
Where, when, and for what size tarpon may be a factor.
The last two times I went to Belize, my 12 wt was a back up to the 10 wt , my trips to Florida required the 12 wt for the more open water and winds, and in Mexico, a 7, 8, or 9 works for the baby tarpon...then there's Costa Rica, river fishing (read:continuous blind casting) with a 12 wore me out in the 100+ degree heat (& 90% Humidity)...if I go again I'll take the 10.
So, what have you looked at at Bill's shop?
Have fun,
Paul

I have a Sage 990 RPLXi (2-piece), 1090 RPLXi (2-piece), and a 1290 RPLXi (2-piece) that I am selling for $190 each. All will fit tarpon fishing, depending where you're chasing the silver king.

I was at Kienes looking at the TFO rods and I picked up a 10 wt and as far as back bone it seemed my 7 wt Helios had more...any thoughts on TFO and backbone
I am heading to belize so mostly I will be chasing babies with my 7 wt but I do want to cahse some big boys....also in my future I will be going after golden dorado and Peacocks so I think a 9wt (with some back bone) or a 10 wt

For adult tarpon most use a 10-12 rod.
For medium size tarpon like in Belize we use 9-10 rods.
For baby Tarpon around the mangroves we use 7-9 rods.

I'm not sure what model TFO you picked up, but many of the TFO models are known for their lifting power. TiCr, TiCr-X, Axiom, Bluewater Series, Clouser, BVK, and Teeny 10wt should all have a lot more lifting power than your 7wt.

I really liked this rod--it has the right price point and all who have tried it --like the way it casts and it has some real guts -- a sea change for TFO
