2 pics are from the tank at Sportsman's Finest. The rio's mated and hatched a bunch of fry. The other pic is in the wild. Very beautiful fish, and the only cichlids native to north America.

Thanks, Bill. Yes, I have caught a few. Check out the home page pic on my website. That rio ate a big "wooley hawgtail", and I was fishing Barton Creek. There are lots of rio's inBC!

Is that a jewel cichlid or a Jack dempsey cichlid? I used to have those in my fish tank,but then i got into the african cichlids. Very cool photos ,thanks for the post.

It's a Texas Cichlid. I've had one for about 20 years now, but need to put her down as she's developed a huge tumor on her side.
