While fishing the Van Duzen in January, I had the distinct pleasure of running into a long time local ex-guide and an extrordinary fisherman (his name is Galen, if anyone up here knows him). Talk about a wealth of informtion!!! Anyway, we got to talking about fishing after the main steelhead closure. The subject of Eel River spring steelhead caught my attention. From what I gathered, the run of these fish can be pretty strong and they're willing to actually eat BUGS! Even dry flies!

I know it's a ways off, but if anyone would like to share some local knowledge on the subject, I'd be very appreciative. Trout fishing will entail long drives for me this year, so I need something to look forward to locally.

Thanks!

I doubt there will be a fishable day this spring with all this snowmelt.

Ya. Listen to FRF....stay inside, don't fish. Learn to mope.

Matter of fact, I'd give up ALL fishing. Sell your gear and end it!

Actually I threw gear off a pier today, in the wind.

You can alway float roe off a 1-pound salmon ball with a marlin rod, on the Eel. Great fight for a steelhead in the high water? The weather gets good, the snow melts. The weather rains, well you know..

What did I say wrong. Go ahead and mope if you feel like it.
