Joe Kimsey, former owner and long time fixture of the Ted Fay Fly Shop, fishin' guide & great guy passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday. We hope to have a gathering to celebrate Joe and his legacy, probably in late April. We will miss his good spirited kidding and friendship. With Joe watching over us this season we will probably fall in a lot less often.
Here is a link to a pic of Joe (http://www.shastatrout.com/joe-kimsey-longtime-friend-and-fly-fishing-companion-passes) on his final fishing trip.

Every time I drive into the Nature Conservency on the McCloud, I remember my first trip down that road (1980), in the dark, with Joe. Bouncing along in his Bronco, he was steering with his knees while he loaded his his pipe...all I could do was load mine, smoke and hope that we didn't go off the road.

I will always hear him quietly saying,"keep your rod up, higher, keep the line off the water."

Great guy,

Paul

It was one Joey's first fly fishing trips. He had a football game in Weed so we played hookey on Friday and went fishing the upper sac. Went to the game on Sat and fished some more. Ran into Joe at the shop and we had 3 Joe's there at once. A couple year back when Joe was tying at the Sac ISE show Joey spent some time and bonded Joe. Joey said he was a chick magnet but I think he was a good fish magnet too.
