Well I finally made it out to Pyramid and I even got a new ladder to do it. Jay Clark of Jay Clark fishing offered to show me the ropes and I was happy he did. Not only did I catch fish but I also meet a great group of guys. I got to the lake at about 6:30 with what was feeling like a scratchy throat, you guessed it I woke up sick but needed to go fish anyways. Luckily my cold stayed away til about 8 or 9 that night. We fished the south nets due to a tournament going on at the north nets. I guess the bite was really hot at sunrise and I missed some good action by about an hour or so. Needless to say I grabbed my ladder and headed out to the line up, Jays buddies were really great guys they even moved over to make room for me. The sand was alot harder than I expected and the water was very clear. I started out striping and a caught a real nice one and then busted off a nice one. Later on I switched over to a indicator just to give it a try, I have never used an indicator on still water before. All in all a great first trip to Pyramid and I can not wait to go back, but this time with my RV and I will be parked on the beach. Thanks Jay for the great company and hospitality.

ARe those Dr Shade Sun gloves you're wearing?

Mangroves I have had for years, but it is time to get a new set. I never go anywhere without them.

I ask because I go with the Dr Shade's Sun gloves and I saw the one splitting.
I love them but they literally start falling apart the moment you put them on.

also.....Now you are ready for some 100+ days on the 4wt and a Big Red or two.

Scott,

You didn't say which method you preferred or which produced the best for everyone, stripping or using an indicator?

Tony I always prefer stripping, indicator fishing is way to boring for me I prefer to feel the tug. I got 2 both ways so it was a tie. Even though I know indicator fishing can be very productive it is just not my cup of tea.

Rusty...yes, they do tube out there. Lots of advice on previous posts about that method and the need to heed the wind(s). Scott...you've gotten a little taste of Northern Nevada this past year...we'll make room for you if you choose to move up here!!

Scott-
It was a fun day fishing with you.Now you have a bit better understanding of why I love that place so much.I look forward to fishing with you again.Good times!

Jay

PS Midging has been working very well as of late, but the early stripping bite has been outstanding. Also, no need for a tube as the fish are in close. So close we are starting to see schools a few feet from the ladder.Pretty soon they will be behind the ladders!

We saw a couple schools swim by, it was pretty cool. As for a float tube you better be careful I was amazed how the winds came up strong and hard in a matter of seconds and I mean a matter of seconds.

Congratulations....you finally made it to Pyramid Lake....Jay is right...this time of the year with some med. size waves and overhead clouds the Cutthroats will move up onto the flats, around the ladders and behind them. This is great if your indicator fishing but for stripping its difficult. This time of the year i like to wade and walk the flats, there are lots of flats that you can do this without getting in a ladder line.

Just talked with Mark and it looks like we both left too early as he stuck a 13# a half an hour after we drove off!Maybe next time!

Jay, that is awesome to hear, I am glad Mark got a big one. Next time I will be camping so no getting there to late or leaving to early for me.

Way to go SV. You broke the bottle on the ladder, uh, in a sense....you know what I mean.

And even on an indicator. Haven't taken the time to give that a try there yet. Neat to say you tried both. And some decent weather for the trip to boot.
