Decided to try and catch another mackinaw trout at Sly Park today, but with all that bright sunlight the mackinaw were in water to deep to fly fish....but i did find some smallmouth in 35ft. of water that was looking for something to eat. Also there was a small black midge hatch coming off in the afternoon and some of the planted trout were snacking on them. Water temp. was 43 degrees today, with a little snow in the shade of the pine trees.

Normally fly fisher have good luck with Smallmouth in our foothill reservoirs in April/May when they are up shallow spawning but I do hear the biggest ones are caught in February by conventional anglers.....probably deeper than normal for fly fishers.

Thanks Gene....you are really getting after them.
