Amazon Peacock Bass (Jan/Feb 2012)

Hello Everyone,

I am excited to announce that I will be personally hosting a couple of back-to-back weeks in the Amazon next season. Once again, we are fishing with River Plate Outfitters (http://www.anglingonthefly.com/RiverPlateOutfitters.html) and their exclusive mobile fly-in camps. Here are the details:

WEEK 1: RPO Mobile Fly-In Camp / Jan. 20 - 29, 2012 (exclusive river program)
* Jan. 20: Arrive Manaus; overnight in Manaus
* Jan. 21: Transfer by float plane to RPO exclusive camp
* Jan. 22 - 27: Six full fishing days on exclusive river
* Jan. 28: Return by float plane to Manaus; overnight in Manaus
* Jan. 29: Depart Manaus for USA

WEEK 2: RPO Mobile Fly-In Camp / Jan. 27 - Feb. 5, 2012 (exclusive river program)
* Jan. 27: Arrive Manaus; overnight in Manaus
* Jan. 28: Transfer by float plane to RPO exclusive camp
* Jan. 29 - Feb. 3: Six full fishing days on exclusive river
* Feb. 4: Return by float plane to Manaus; overnight in Manaus
* Feb. 5: Depart Manaus for USA

Looks like a blast! That right there is my dream trip!

Looks like you guys catch a lot of temensis(largest growing cichla, 3 vert bars and heavily spotted.) These are the ones your reffering to as azuls. That they are not.

Cichla piquitti(azuls), have five vertical bars that come to a point at the bottom. At adult size they lose most of their spots and are a diff. base color.

The butterfly peacock you reffered to is an orino. Cichla orinocenis. They are that strikingly beautiful yellow-green w/ the three occelets surrounded by that bold yellow.

One day I hope to take a trip like this as I have a passion for cichla :)

Do guys catch any other species of cichla? There are over 10 diff. sub-species of cichla and they all have diff patterns and colors. Very unique fish.

We catch a variety of Peacocks, but I am no expert on the latin names for them as you can see. My naming of the Peacock Bass is based on what the local guides call them, so that is my basis. I figure they know their fish better than any, so I call them as they call them.

It is my favorite trip still... more than just the fishing, the entire experience of being in the jungle is what it is all about - the wildlife, local culture, landscape, climate, and fishing... it is all fascinating.

But as far as the diff. species of pbass goes...do you have any more pics of the other types? I am an avid aquarist and keep a couple diff. kinds in my home aquarium. The color and attitude of a peacock is like no other fish :)
