Hello,
I woke up at 6... even though I was supposed to be up by 5.. stupid snooze button. Anyhow, I ended up going to the river solo. I had my mind set on fooling steelheads the traditional way, swinging flies. The indicator and split shots do not exist in my world!
Geared up and on the river by 8. Surprisingly, my first swing hooked me up with this beauty, minus the scar.

After i landed the beauty in, I thought to myself if this would be the only fish of the day for me. I'm sure everyone else has had one of those days... the ones where you catch a fish early, and it ends up being super quiet for the rest of the day.
It became dead for about 30 minutes as I moved my way downstream swinging my flies, until I met this run.

The time was about 915ish, and wow, the day was looking good. Worked my way into it, and landed another one. It made me wonder if it was the same fish I just caught earlier, cause it had a similar scar on its body.BUT, he took a bit long just to bring in, and he was a tad bit bigger. I decided to put my new camera to use, and shoot this.

As I kept working my way down, I started hooking up again at around 10am, and I hooked about 4, but I could not bring them to the net. I actually had one that made my heart pound, made my hands shake, and made me super nervous. ( I was on my 5/6 switch too, so I had an INSANE BENDO) His head was monstrously large, and that's when I knew I had an adult buck on my line. He took me for my best joyride so far, for 2011.. and then fooled me as he changed course upstream.. i was so nervous.. my reactions were just off. :(
What a crazy day right? I kept moving along, avoiding all the deep water I could not wade, cause i'm basically 5'6.. and I can only wade in such deep waters.
The time is about 11AM or a little after 11 now, and I wade down to this pool.

It sure did look promising. Spent about 15 minutes or so before my first hookup.. lost it after 15 seconds or so.. decided to give myself a few more attempts after changing flies.. hooked up again.... lost it.. I started to feel like my luck ran out...gave myself a few steps downstream.. cast.. swing.. BAM.. The fight was decent, but maybe it was only decent because the buck ruined it for me. Anyways, here's a picture of the biggest I landed today.

Gave myself a few more swings, and moved my way down. Time now was about noon.. maybe a little after.. Tried to get my line behind a log... after losing a few flies.. I finally got it thru.. Hooked up, had it on for about maybe.... 30 seconds... lost it.. and after this hook up.. it was dead for the rest of the day...
In conclusion, from sunrise to latest 1PM is the best... indicators and split shots do not exist.. and avoid hogging the same hole.. it's pointless. :D
