Having only Saturday to fish, having not fished since October, and with no good reports for any local fisheries, I took the easy way out. I paid for it. I live about two hours from Luk Lake, the pay-to-play fishery next to the casino in Corning. I called The Fly Shop in Redding Visa-ed them $85 and arrived Saturday at 1:00 pm. In five hours I landed 7 or 8 trout from 15" to 20"+. I also landed a couple of 12" bass. I took all fish on wooly buggers on a #4 sink rate line. Was it worth it? Well when you've gone without for as long as I have, sometimes your willing to pay for it.

Private water is a good thing.

You usually catch fish and don't get your car messed with.

If you want to fish a lake in the So Cal area, it is going to be for pay in a water
district lake. Pretty much the same thing. Lake Morena, in San Diego's east county,
has a great deal for seniors(62+) during the week. A boat with motor, and two
fishing permits for $11.50. County park there for camping, too.
