March, April and May is prime time for the spring-run of Steelhead in the longer Valley rivers.

Looks like we might have nice lower flows this spring but that can change quickly.

As it warm with eh lower flows we get insects hatching in many of our low elevation rivers and streams.

We get lots of insects hatching with caddis being the main bug. In cleaner rivers like the Lower Yuba we get stone flies and may flies as well.

We can go out in the afternoons and fish till dark with caddis emergers and caddis dries too.

Spring-run Steelhead and resident trout will be feeding on these bugs as well as eating sculpin and salmon fry.

We all love to get out on those hot little fish with a small Spey rod, Switch rod for single handed fly rod.

These fish are feeding so they are easier to catch with flies.

As more fish show up you will read about it here...........
