Big girl caught on the Feather last week....

Even though it doesn't say exactly in the article, just had Jerry Neuberger at our [GBF] general meeting and he said it was reported that she was 58" long and 50+ pounds.

The best part...... She was released!

The World Record Striped Bass (78 pounds, 8 oz) was 53" long ... laying a soft tape over the fishes body is not how you measure the length accurately... always makes me laugh when I hear these types of reports. A 58" striper caught this time of year (fat winter fish, pre-spawn) could be well over 90 pounds! That is if they even get that long.

Length is measured by putting the fish on a board and measuring nose to tail on the flat surface of the board, sort of how we measure height with humans.

In any case it was no doubt a big one to get the 58" exaggeration, and fantastic release!!!

It was very hard to get an exact measurement because we wanted to get her back into the water ASAP...
