The kids are out of school today so I figured I’d whip up some flies and take my son down to a pond and try to get some bluegill. My favorite streamer is John Barr’s Slumpbuster. A few years ago I started tying these smaller versions for trout and sunfish. Really quick tie and there is no material on earth more life like than CDC and Bunny fur.

1. 1/8” bead on a #12 TMC 3761 plus a good amount of fine lead wraps.

2. Dub a nice tapered abdomen leaving plenty of room for tying in the bunny later.

3. Add an underwing of flash tinsel

4. Cut a very short strip of zonker fur, it helps to clip the corners where you will tie in the strip.

5. Tie in right behind the bead and wrap down leaving a good base for the “hackle”

6. Tie in a long CDC feather by the tip and wrap forward to the bead.

7. Finished fly. I like dark brown and yellow but the possible combos are endless. The natural gray CDC tends to work with any color dubbing and bunny fur.

Those look really nice, especially the brown ones.

Those look good. I'd bet that, in a slightly larger size and without the CDC, those would work well at Pyramid Lake, too. Like a Tui Chub minnow.

Very nice, now I know what to do with all the left over rabbit strip from tying leeches.

I put a video of it in the water on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/user/davkrat5#g/u
Looks pretty good in the water could have used a little more weight but once the gills are on their beds in the shallows it works great suspended a bit off the bottom.

That fly has a lot of action on the strip.... I'll bet it's very effective. :D

:DThe step by step is great and when we are able to see what it looks like in the water is really great. Thank you I think I am going to tie some up and try them soon. Tight lines
