is there a big difference between the xi2 vs. xi3?

Sage Xi2 series was discontinued in the fall of 2009 and then the Xi3 came out for 2010.

I have had some of all the X series Sages and they are all good.

If you are a good caster, you can feel that the Xi3 does cast better than the Xi2 but for half the price, a used Xi2 is a great rod.

Bills spot on. All of the X-series are solid all around. Only issue I ever had was some of the real old 5 piece RPLX-i travel rods were a little softer then the 2 and 3 piece models in the same weight. Im pretty sure thats no longer the case with the newer graphite and ferrule designs.

I love the Xi2 and I have an 8 and a 10. After I tried my buddies Xi3 in a 10 I was impressed. They are both great rods.

I have a Xi2 790 which is a great rod. My favorite to cast, my old RPL+ 790-2. I've never cast a Xi3 but every Sage I have is great!

Yes, but you can email Sage and ask. They are very easy to deal with. Paul

I owned a 890-4 Xi2 and it was a nice casting rod. I eventually replaced it with a 890-4 TCX and loved it until I cast the Xi3. I think there is more than a slight difference between the Xi2 and Xi3. The Xi3 has much more feel through the casting distances and is an absolute match made in heaven w/ a Rio Bonefish WF-8F! Hands-down the best 8wt I have owned!!

been looking around quite a bit at other rods and its giving me a headache! so many choices but getting the experts to chime in is great. i don't know if i want to treat myself to high $$$$ rod if i'm just going to be using it all the time. i picked up a 9wt. clouser rod and just getting use to it with the obscw9wti. thinking of getting another 9wt. for topwater or sinking line
