These two fish were caught in January. I did not catch them but I did row the boat and take the pictures. Both fish were 33" and were not far from the ocean. The fishable window on the coastal rivers is small and if you have a job and a family it is hard to hit. If you do hit it catching a fish is still not a done deal. On this trip two anglers floated three days and got three grabs not counting smolts.

It does not get much better than this.

What a beautiful pair@!

Yep, I always fish for ONE hit.

Anymore... in Californistan anyway....

ONE hit/one fish is a fair-good day.

So I see what the buck ate... What fooled the hen?

Nice fish guide!

Gorgeous slabs!
Congrats!
That is exactly why we pursue these remarkable creatures...
And, yeah, timing is everything!

It is so exciting to see that there are still those beautiful fish out there, even if I am too old and lazy to chase them.

I was lucky to be able to go many years ago with great Steelheaders like Al Perryman and Joe Shirshac to fish the coast in the winter.

Thanks for posting those wonderful photos.........

About 40 years ago I was told by a great old fly fisher and Sacramento City Fire Fighter the late Jack McLaughlin, that if I ever caught a fresh run 10 pound hen Steelhead within a few mile of the ocean in the winter on a fly rod I would never be the same.

Luckily I did get to do that some and I was never the same....
