Bill,

I love your article and reference it whenever I see one for sale. Currently I own 2 old ones, and enjoy the information provided about them from your site.

Bill,

I have an old Orvis Saltwater Reel, NITB, although the box is in bad condition. It is pretty large - looks like it would take a 10 or 12 weight plus an appropriate amount of backing. This reel looks very similar to the Pflueger reels of that era and I am told it was manufactured for Orvis by Pflueger. I acquired this reel in the late 70s Any idea what it's worth, if anything?

I remember that reel series.....some were gold and brown?

It would make a good Spey reel.

If you took a picture of it and put it on eBay you would get top dollar for it there.

Wilbur I'm a bit upset what happened to my old P-fluger. Turns out hookers will take reels in trade. She didn't smell good either. Hope she catches some fish since I caught something from her.

Is anyone familiar with the Pflueger Progress. It was my grandfathers, but looks like it had never been used, although it does have line on it?

Check out the link for antique Pflueger Reels (Progress):

The Progress appears to be offered in fly and conventional models beginning in 1935.

Great write-ups! Every time I hear Pflueger Medalists mentioned, it reminds me I need to get some of those 1-Pfoot parts to switch my reel to left-hand retrieve and spiff it up. 8)
