I keep digging around and I'm coming up with all kinds of interesting old stuff in this closet. What I have here is a J.W.Young & Sons LANDEX that I'm sure landed a lot of steelhead on the Eel and the Russian. It has a kind of anti-reverse wind handle on it similar to a Billy Pate along with an old shooting line and head. Everything on it seems to work fine

J.W.Young is and old English company dating back to the mid-1800s and still has a current website showing the LANDEX in their historical models along with maintenance and care instructions.

Nice reel, I wish my closets coughed up old Youngs, if you find a 1535 or maybe a 1540 in there I'd be interested.

That is a cool old reel Tony.

Some of my older buddies had those.

J.W.Young was a quality English fly reel back then but they got cheapened later in the '70s and '80s just like the Pflueger Medalist.

My brother Dick inherited my direct drive model kind of like that one.

What size and capacity would that be?

The reel is approximately 3 1/2" in diameter by 1 1/2" wide at the spool. Judging by the size it would fit any 6w - 8w rod. I've attached a link to a page on the J.W.Young website showing the details of the reel and you can read some of the history of the company.
