Informative article but not a lot of anything new in it. I'm disappointed that the discussion always seems to address downstream issues (e.g. drainage, polution, etc.) and impacts on the environment very little. Polluted drinking water is a start but certainly is not the whole picture....

Drainage is a major issue for agribusiness and the environment. The dollar amount of and type subsidies required to accomplish a solution to this is astonishing and the largest single impediment in implementation. I've read about tests that have been conducted and proven but await decision and funding. In the meantime, current drainage systems aren't adequate to slow pollution of groundwater and release into our waterways.

Amazing how complex/vast all of this is when you get into it....
