Being a newbie up here on the North Coast, it's quite the task to figure out when I can go fishing. I think I've got the Trinity figured out in regards to flows, but I need some advice for the other rivers in the area.

SF Eel, I know muddies/blows quickly, but can anyone give me a ballpark range of flow rate (cfs) when that river is ok to fish (wade). Today it's at 1,190 at Legget and falling 11cfs/hr.

Any help with the Mad and Van Duzen would be great too!

Much appreciated!

I don't know about the SF Eel, but have had success on the Mad when below 600cfs.I think gaining confidence fishing off colored water may be key to consistent success on the Mad.

Check out the http://www.times-standard.com The Eureka newspaper features a
weekly "Fishing the North Coast" by Kenny Priest. He does a great job with this
column.

I just drove back from Garberville (to Fort Bragg) and the SF looked just about perfect. A little high but that beautiful "fishy" green I like to fish. It was raining lightly up there (Harder here, on the coast) but not so hard it looked like it was going to blow out the river.

Thing to do is to check the flows now and keep that as a measure.

One of the best apps for an iphone or blackberry is

http://fishheadapp.com

You can get data for rivers and tides. Check the web site to learn more. You should
establish some flow levels and heights for best fishing on your river, of course.
I love this app. Think it is about $7.00 now and well worth it! Take notes on your trips to the river (use the river flow info from gov't sites) and use those for reference.
