Those are some awesome shots Jay.

But not being an artsy photographer, I would like to request some more 'real' shots. You know, the stuff we see as it is while we're out there.
I personally believe that the slow shutter speed shots are only appreciated by photo/artists and urban tourists.

Show it as it actually is, and if you could, include the frosty fingers, the smell of the leaves decaying, and maybe a scratch or two on the arms and legs.
The whole picture, if you get what I'm sayin.

I do love the feeling you're shots attempt to portray, it's just a shame that it takes all five senses to actually live them. Believe it or not, those shots make me want to take a handfull of really black dirt and just inhale the essence of it while standing next to a small canyon stream on a rainy autumn day.

Thanks for that.

I think I know what he means. Those are captivating shots. Nothing like a day on
a stream in the fall. Sometimes I look at the shots of running water and see the
"blur" and think, "that's not how I remember it." They do show everything in sharp,
clear focus. But, how about one with the rapids well defined?
No criticism, you understand. Thanks for showing. What Nikon?

Thanks Larry, you've summed up my ramblings very well.

That was definitely meant as a compliment Jay.

Do you have a 'smellavision' lens for that fancy new camera of your? :D

J,

Very nice. I see you've befriended a tripod!

Great shots. Looks like you've got yourself a handful of screensavers there. You'll should shoot the same shots every three months so you have a set of screensavers for every season. I bet the changes iyou'll see in the landscape would be very cool!

Thanks guys.

Really diggin your idea Ron.

Larry, the camera is a D3100

When I set out to take those photos I had a specific goal and it was to capture a long exposure brook with fall colors. I came back with so many good ones, I couldnt decide which ones were tops, so I posted all my favorites. lol. I completely understand what your saying, if I had posted one shot like that in a series of different types of pics, it wouldve been a lot more impressive than posting 9 shots of the same thing. My bad on redundant posting :-)

I am learning that when I set out on a project I look for the conditions that will suit the effect I want to capture. For the above shots I intentionally went out on a cloudy, dark, late afternoon. Those conditions are not condusive for sharp, hi def photography with fast shutter speeds. At least not with my limited knowledge.

Heres a few shots I took last month that are a little more high light and hi def.

:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:

Oh my god.

And that's in a good way.

Like that weirdo Hanley would say, you have an eye.

Those shots, though not on my stream, speak very eloquently of thousands of streams here in the western U.S.

That's what keep's me going back year after year.

Well done Jay.

Thanks for those. It is what we remember when we think back to those times on the streams. Not so much the fish pictures. Maybe I should qualify that and say "I" instead
of "we." The camera hasn't been invented yet that will capture the "experience" of
feeling the first few seconds of hooking up with a steelhead.
Looking forward to more of your efforts.

Jay, both sets of pics are pretty damn good. I do like the artsy pics that you and others have put up. However, that first real time pic. you posted....wow!! I could envision coming out of brush, seeing that sweet run and colors of the forest around it, and thinking "this is going to be an killer frickin' day".

Wow, what a gorgeous place and photos to match. That was a great suggestion to capture a given shot in all seasons. In any event, please keep 'em coming Jay!
