I was there over the easter weekend this past spring and rented a kayak next door to where the tarpon feed. Pretty cool stuff!

Those mangroves are so thick, I swear you could go in there and never find your way out.

The last few years when my wife and I would visit the keys we'd stay just down the road from Robbie's at the Coral Bay Resort. Nice little bungalow type rooms with a kitchen. We'd then rent a boat for the week from Robbies and bring it back to the dock at Coral Bay and keep it there for our use.

We usually hired a guide for the tarpon fishing for a couple of days and then used our own boat once we found out where things were happening and when. Having been there numerous times we were familiar with the area's waters.

If we caught something really good to eat (grouper, snapper, etc.) we'd take the fillets in to our favorite restaurant there called "Uncle's". They'd prepare whatever we brought in however we wanted it or we'd simply order off their menu. Great seared tuna with wasabi sauce.

Grouper like this one that my wife took was more than enough to feed four people.
