That is a pretty nice old rod..........

About 30 years ago Walton Powell and his wife visited my shop in Sacramento.

Sadly, I never met his father, EC Powell.

I knew Walton's son/EC's grandson, Press Powell, who carried on the Powell tradition of fine rod building.

If it was an 'EC Powell' rod it would probably be worth a ton more.

In northern California the Powell family not only made some of the finest split cane, fiber glass and graphite fly rods, they played a significant part in the history of fly fishing in the past 100 years or so.

They heavily influenced many others in Nor Cal to build split cane fly rods the 'EC Powell' way.

Here is a nice web site of Eugene C Powell's (forth generation)

I see Gene all the time. He builds awesome rods and does great restoration to the old ones. Thanks Bill for posting his website.

Jim Clarkson at Raptor Rod Works in Chico also does restroation.

Rich nice rod - I will send you my Powel rod list - it is around 70 rods. I keep on forgeting. Next time you are in the area lets get Jim and do a float on the river.

Lance - that float sounds great...and I'll watch for the list. When I was in Chico a couple of weeks ago I spent a few days with Jim and I met your brother at Sierra Stream.

I also had Jim give this rod I am selling a complete eval and he said it's in great shape.

On the rod subject...Jim ended up with all the original Powell familly bamboo blank stock. You can read all about it on his website www.raptorrodworks.com - go to the 'Classics' tab.
