Hi All,

My son just joined a band in BC so I will be heading up with him for his weekend practices about 10 times a year starting in early November. Does anyone know any good sites for local ordinances and regs, places in the general vicinity I might want to consider, etc. since I will have idle time while he practices.

Figure I would check here before I just start Googling about.

Cheers!

If you haven't seen it, there was a thread in August 2009 about fishing out on Vancouver Island.

Here are some websites for info- Burnaby is suburb on south side of Vancouver and is only 20 mins or so to US Border. So do not overlook fishing in north western Washington.

There is lots of fishing that are short drive day trips from Burnaby. Vancouver Island will be at least an overnight, if not a multi-day trip.

Try some of the BC fly fishing club sites. You could easily find fishing buddies from BC-- especially if you offer to show them our N California waters when everything is frozen in BC.

Well, got into town too late Friday night to hit the water, but had a great time watching my son's band practice.

Dropped him off at practice early Saturday, and headed over to a local fly shop - great advice, very friendly, and given my time constraints he had me pointed towards the water and out of his shop in no time. Went to the Alouette (sp?) river by the Harris Street bridge. Wide, smooth as glass, and not a riffle in sight. Gave it my best with a single fly per local regs, no love. Did see a huge salmon of some sort swim by me, just idling upstream - very cool. Fished primarily with an egg pattern at suggestion of local shop.

Headed back to my son's practice to pick him up and we headed to La Farge Lake. He used a micro spinning setup, I stuck with my 5x. pretty crowded water, and some people kept everything  they caught. Rain started coming down, and he finally caught something all on his own - an 11", pretty fat, shiny silver but no stripes like a rainey. He was so stoked!

Next morning had limited time during my son's practice but saw some other areas I briefly investigated for my next trip up and have a few ideas...(and hopefully, might have some pics of some fish to show).
