Girlfriend and I jammed up the hill to the Silver Fork yesterday - quite a bit of traffic coming down from Tahoe, but luckily we were heading the other direction. The Silver Fork's canyon was a very nice, cool relief to the minor heatwave we've had in Sac lately.
Poked around the Silver Fork about halfway out in an area where a steep hike down is required and cought several rainbows on small caddis and beetle/ant dries, ranging from 6-10 inches.
After parking at the Caples trailhead, we hiked for about a mile before fishing, just above the confluence with Silver. Per usual, there were quite a few hungry little rainbows hooked, nearly all on elk hair caddis, small hoppers or beetle/ant patters, though I threw a dark lord dropper on for some deeper pools. We also spotted two sub-10" rattlers on the trail, so keep your eyes peeled.
We also ran into some two guys w/ large caliber, bolt-action rifles, holstered pistols and four or five dogs with radio collars. With that set up I assume they were after bear, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Seemed pretty odd in an area that gets a fair amount of human traffic.
