spring run counts are starting to filter their way out. Approx. 250 in Deer, 1100 in Butte, 2 in Chico Creek and less than 20 in antelope creek. So sad.

I have the inside scoop on Upper Sacramento Basin spring-run Chinook counts:

Deer Creek: 268
Antelope Creek: 17
Beegum Creek: 15
Clear Creek: 17
Battle Creek:180
Mill Creek: 206

These numbers are preliminary and are subject to revision before final reporting. The Mill Creek number in particular is just food for thought as it is derived from a combination of video and DIDSON data collected last spring. The "official" Mill Creek escapement estimate is generated from a redd count which will take place this coming October.

Yes, the numbers are bleak. Matt.

what would average runs be?

In recent times Deer Creek averaged around 2000 spring-run Chinook and Mill Creek around 1000. The other smaller tributaries like Antelope Creek are used more "opportunistically" by spring-run on good water years, and would average about 50-100 fish. Matt.
