I'd like to go to Colusa or Corning the first weekend of October for a bit of Sac River fishing. Does anyone know what I can expect as far as stripers go? This is my first big year of fishing so still trying to find the right places.

Thanks!!!

GV,

There are stripers in the Sac river almost year round but not in great numbers during the fall. Spring is when they are in the upper river for the purpose of spawning and that is when you should be trying for them in the area you mentioned. Right now and for the next couple of months the majority of the striper population will be found in the delta. My friend, Bob Bradbury did take a 30 pounder though a few days ago drifting minnows close to where you described.

If you read my following post you may get a better idea of where the stripers are now.

First of all catch and kill salmon fishing opens on the Lower Sac Oct. 9 so I would avoid that area of the river like the plague after Oct. 9. That said there are stripers around all year if you know where to look.
