I would like to tie some hoppers for the Feather and Lower Yuba Rivers. Which patterns does anyone recommend?

I've had good luck in most valley rivers with the Hopper Juan. It's fairly easy to tie and has a very buggy profile. I've tied them in many, many different colors to match the naturals. I've also used them for stoneflies and even October Caddis.

Tie a few to see if you like them...AND THEN JOIN MY FOAM FLY SWAP!

Thanks, WoolyBugger. Looks good. I have also heard of the Fat Albert, but can't find tying instructions.

For the Fat Albert, check out Charlie Craven's site: http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/detail.cfm?parentID=138

Craven's "Charlie Boy Hopper" is also worth taking a look at: http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/detail.cfm?parentID=164

I've always like Whitlock's "Dave's Hopper" even though it is a pain to tie: http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/detail.cfm?parentID=147

Lately, I've been tying up some AK's Hoppers just because they're so easy and quick to tie. Haven't fished any of 'em yet, though. Maybe I'll test a few on the Delta this weekend.

Here's a write-up I found online:

One of our board members (Ken Hanley) has a great hopper pattern; the KH Pigmy Hopper. Check it out:

www.pacificextremes.com/patterns.html

In addition, Hanley produced a book, Tying Furled Flies. In it are descriptions of variations to his hopper pattern. :D :D

Here are a few hopper patterns to try. How is the hopper fishing going out there, winding down here. Bummed to say that I have not been able to get out and throw hoppers this summer yet, not sure if I will now that summer is about over, I guess I can look forward to streamer fishing now.

Andy Guibord recommends about a #10 Dave's Hopper for the Lower Yuba River in the middle of summer.

My favorite Hopper pattern is a rubber legged Simulator #8 to #6, easy to tie and they work great My 2 cents

The two I use (interchangably) are the PMX and Amy's Ant. On both, I splay out the Elk/Deer hair.

That's a cool hopper. Similar to my Caddis pattern http://www.fishingwithflies.com/KratvilleCritters.htm Mike Weir's Hoppicator is a very cool fly too. The third level of foam folded over is a great idea and must float like crazy. I'll have to give those Hopper Juans a try seems like a really simple tie.

Two patterns.

I like the PMX or Parachute madam X. Caught 5 fish in 2 hours on the Yuba during August.

Also like the Amy's Ant. High Floater, and killer during hoppers and stones. (good on the South Platte, too)

Tied up a few of those Hopper Juans and my caddis pattern. That foam style bullet head is super easy and quick, a lot easier than a deer hair bullet head.

I'm in on a floam fly swap.

Uh, Woolybugger's foam swap already happened. It was already started and sign-ups were in process at the time this thread started, which is why he suggested joining it. Here's is the thread for the foam swap:
