I went to the Forebay yesterday to shoot some video footage but ended up filming some damsel nymphs crawling out of the water and the shedding it's shuck. The process took 22 minutes from the time it stopped and dried out.
I shot the footage using a time lapse on my video... 1 sec filming every 1 running minute.
I'm going back to shoot .5 secs every 1 minute The crawling portion of the video was shot in real time.
I moved the camera to get a better angle but the damsel crawled out quick. Next video will have some under water footage of the in the water and swimming to the shore line - i hope. The damsel on the rock being hand held was shot with my GoPro in 720p @ 60fps

PS I did catch one small LMB on a dahlberg and there's a lot of small stripers chasing bait in the shallows. No wind yesterday.

Sure is fun watching those guys stumble around on the rocks. Glad I'm not the only one that does that.... Those rocks must be hot. Wonder what role the surface temperature plays in the metamophosis of the Damsels, if any. :-k Great video Jay.

Here's an updated version of the damsel. I slowed it down 40%. If you're like me and didn't see the damsel crawling out of the shuck and the part where it's on the shell and the body is unfolding, it's now in slow motion. It's neat to watch the body unfold.
I'm going back to shoot more video. I'd love to find a huge stone fly and do a time lapse on it.

Amazing how delicate they look.... I would like to see a video of a Salmon Fly. The contrasting colors would really be interesting.... :D

So Jay I've seen this and other videos you have done. What are the possibilities of putting them together on a single CD to use in Trout in the Classroom? I especially like the Kings River video since I used to spent an inordinate amount of time there. One of the problems with teaching inverts to the kids is what the actual size of the critter is, and how they move around. This video can give students an idea of both.

Hey Bill,

That would be a problem, although I'd like to capture more footage on some bugs and maybe even some rising trout. I'm hoping the KR starts dropping and I can find some fish rising to the bugs or fly's.
I will try and put a short video together.
