I like October best because it's not hot and it's not cold.

Morning and evening with the sun off the water you can catch fall Steelhead in dozens of river in Nor Cal and Oregon with a floating line swinging classic flies in the surface.

You can use a #6, 7 or 8 weight single hand fly rod that is 9 feet or longer with a Steelhead floating line. Then have some Poly leaders or a sink-tip line to get down late morning and early evening while the sun is on the water.

Many are using Switch and lighter Spey rods for fall Steelhead too.
