As most already know Mike grew up around our fly shop 'many moons ago'. I asked him to help me test cast some of the new Echo Solo Spey rods down at the river so I could post our line recommendations on our online Spey store.

We felt the 12'6" #6 cast well with anything from 375 to 425 grains in a short Skagit line.

The 12'9" #7 cast Skagit lines from 475 to 525 with ease.

We used the new short Rio MOW tips for our test which are very nice on a Skagit line.

We also cast an Echo 11' 9" #4 Deck Hogan Spey rod which was shocking for me because it cast so effortlessly.

*We did pick one of the hottest days to do this but wet wading in the river was nice.

**By the way, the Lower American River is finally down to a low flow of 1,700 cfs so get out there early or late in the day for some Half-pounder Steelhead action.
