Interesting info on holding and controlling running line - something I have been doing for awhile now and it helps!!

Good afternoon Rick,
Myself, I just carry a loop about 6foot long or MORE under each finger of my top hand, and todate I've never even thought there could be a problem, as its too easy a way to control the running line.
With the top finger used to carry the first loop coming inwards, etc,
And the bottom finger will carry the smallest loop.
Kind regards,
UB

Good stuff Rick , thanks for posting it !! Hey what running line do you preffer , Ive played with with the miracle shooting braid , and had problems with tangels , switched to the 30# ridge line and found it much better but lost some distance. I think from its larger diamater !!! Mark
Ok, I watched that about four times and I don't get what he is doing?

Regarding running lines - I have used so many I have lost track - still used plastic coated lines some of the time but have gone to mono - using Berkeley Big Game Solar Green in 35# and 45# - cheap and you can replace it when it tangles and gets kinks - I have yet to find a system that does not tangle and I like the distance and ease of casting with mono.
Regarding the method I reference- as the video states it is hard to explain - normally when you strip in line you strip with your left hand palm down and make several strips - transfer to your right hand - then continue to strip in another series of strips and so on until you have the head at the tip top - depending on how far you are casting and how big your loops/coils you may have 3 or more loops - all in the same direction (that is it is coming off your right index finger in the same direction - the front of the loop is pointing to the front off you index finger). When you use this method, it imparts a twist to the running line you are stripping in. You are just making loops of running line - if you have ever tried to coil a rope or a hose in this fashion you can see how it will add a twist.
What works better is for the first series of strips do as above - with your palm down - when you transfer to your right hand, for the next series of strips - turn your left hand over so palm is on top and strip rotating your hand over - when you transfer to your right hand you transfer so the running line is going the opposite direction -front of the loop pointing to the rear off your index finger - this is creating coils not loops and does not impart a twist which will reduce tangles over a day of fishing.
Fats- not sure that clears anything up? The video clip should have zoomed in on the guy's hands to see better what he was doing.
Back to the mono running line - it has less stick on the water and you an make long coils and let them hang below you - I will often make 5 pulls or more on my first coil - so maybe 12 to 15 feet of line doubled hanging off my index finger - and it has little impact on stick

I do not like to make the coils the same size. An example would be to make the first coil six pulls, the second five and the third four.
In my experience I find less problems using this method than making them the same length.
