Finally got the chance to get away from work and garden stuff to make my first trek to the Silverfork. My brother bailed on me with a bad back so it was just a solo trip with a chance at meeting ScottV one afternoon.
Arrived late on Wednesday and found a perfect camping spot away from the crowds at a spot I called Half Dome of the Silverfork.

Fished a little the first day but mostly watched fish mock me and play with my flies.

Woke the next day and tried my luck a little further upstream. The fish were fast!! I managed a few but most of them were getting away.

Scott arrived in the afternoon and we proceeded to walk upstream as he talked about places to fish and tactics. We got along well with me asking questions and watching the master, but he also lost a few fish as you have to be quick to set the hook or these guys are gone. Here Scott catches on of the rascals.

I started to get the hang of it and while still tough we started to catch more and more. I even caught 4 out of the same hole and missed 12 others. Fish even started to jump out of the water to catch the fly before it landed by the end of the day.

I thanked Scott for the lessons and promised again to fish together as I really need float tube lessons.

The next day for me was much better I caught probably 15 fish and missed only about that many in 3 hours. It is a beautiful spot and I hope to return soon.

Thanks to Scott and to all that offered advice I had a great time.

Here are some more photos of the creek to end on.

I had heard Scott walked on water but until now hadn't seen photographic evidence!

Great report kokaneejr! Scott's the man and I too have seen him walk on water....singing that old Eddie Money tune......HA! Glad you found some fish and it's amazing that the wildflowers are still very much in bloom.

Yeah Scott is the man!! But while he may walk on water we have the scars on our shins to prove he doesn't walk on rocks:)

Kyburz I can't believe it took less than 3 hours to get there from Petaluma. That included a shoert stop at one of my favorite fishing shops in Placerville and a while getting lost trying to find the stupid forest service in Placerville to get my fire permit. Funny laughed the girl at the front desk..."They changed the name of the street but not our address. A lot of people have trouble finding us.... "

I didn't take my good camera as I hate to worry about it when fishing, but the night skies were great and the meteor shower on Wednesday was amazing it looked as if Jets were crashing from the sky.

I will be going again before the season ends.

Hey Kok., next time visit the Sequoia Nat. Forest web site and you can download the permit and print out all online. Very nice for when you're in a hurry to get to fishing.

I had a great time on the Silver Fork with kokanee, and it was great to watch him get into some fish. Both browns and rainbows is always nice. For me there is just something mystical about the Silver Fork, the beauty and wildlife plus some great fishing. As the sun hit the water the bugs were coming off crazy, there were times the fish would rise 5 or 6 times on a single drift. Bats were flying all around eating bugs and luckily not our flies. But like normal eventually you can't see and it is time to walk back to camp and bid farewell to another great day on the water.
