I got a CA Kennebec (it was used once and I got it for a steel) so I took it out this weekend just to get a feel for it. I went over to Rollins Lake Saturday morning (only because it's less than 5 minutes from the house). It was a lot of fun. I even caught a nice smallmouth, and had a couple more hits in less than two hours of fishing. I’m picking up an I line tomorrow at the shop and plan to head up to Wrights Lake this Saturday, can’t wait. I just hope the fish aren’t down to deep, although from what I hear the lake is pretty shallow. I might even fish Dark Lake. I love getting new toys!

Thought I'd add a photo of the little guy, Rollins has lots of smallmouth this size and they fight hard.

To get to Wrights Lake you have to go via Ice House Road. Wrights Lake road is closed, I just drove past the turn off on Saturday.

Thanks Scott. Someone told me that last week, I got on the NF website and the road was marked as open as well as the information being up to date as of July 1st. That will save me some driving around.

Correction: I didn't look hard enough, the web site does list the road as closed.

You'll see the big sign at Ice House road for Wright's lake. What time you planning on going, I might join you. PM me.

I just got back from a few days in Tahoe with my family yesterday and we made the trip to Wright's. The road to Wrights was closed about half way up the hill. Thanks to my not so shy wife we were able to get through. She asked the construction workers if there was any way they could please let us through and to my surprise they said yes. They let us and everyone else who was sitting in the parking lot half way up through. They did say we would have to take the back way through Ice House to get out though.

We ended up getting there a bit late and I did not bring my tube (no room for my toys my wife said) but I was able to squease in my fly rod. I did not catch anything but my son caught a decent 12" bow on power bait. I tried using one of the fly's Scott gave me and I did see a group of them chase it from shore a few times but unfortunately no takers. There was a bunch of fish in the shallow area to the right of the boat ramp (in the little cove). I think it was just to hot by the time we got and we left before the evening.

Good luck out there this weekend......Have fun.
