how do you guys clean your fly line? will soap and water work or do i need one of the cleaners you buy at the fly shop?

You can wash it with warm water and hand dish washing soap.

Then you can put a dressing on it like the TMC Line Dressing from Umpqua.

I really like a product I got at Kiene's called Zipcast, you just put a little on a clean cloth and drag your line through it a couple times. It cleans the lines and makes my casts go a little further.

I use the UFM "Glide" with the applicator box. This last trip I moved it from my kit bag to my pack because I was getting really tired of having my floating line sink below my indicator and put a bunch of uncorrectable drag into my drift. It may be time for a new line, but that is my issue not yours...

clean them with dawn dish detergent if they are real dirty and then hit them with 303. If they aren't that dirty just use 303. They will last forever. I have lines 20+ years old. 303 is that good.

I wipe my lines down at the end of the day with Armorall. For years it has cleaned and protected the line to point that I get quite a few seasons out of them.
