Gotta drop the Family off in Lovelock, NV, and fishing the Truckee area Sunday PM and all day Monday. From the reports, looks like I am gonna hit a good time to be there.

Maybe I will see some of you up there.

The BT is finally in prime shape. :unibrow: Depending on how aggressive of a wader you are will determine where you go on the California side. Trout are now being duped at the surface. Like any other freestone stream you will attract the bigger guys if you probe the depths...

We actually saw, fished to, hooked, netted & released consistent and rythmic surface-feeders on Monday.

Got back last nite around 10...showered and went to bed.

Report:

Fished Sunday evening at the Hirshdale bridge. Nothing rising, not a lot of bugs. Went down to the smaller bridge at hirschdale, caught a leetle one, but again, not a lot rising.

Ate dinner at Jax Diner in Truckee. Great food and plenty of it. Spent the nite at the Sagehen CG, what a be-yoo-tee-ful spot (not that I could see it when I rolled in) Every star was out an twinkling just for me. I spent at least an hour watching the universe revolve around me. (yes, the universe does revolve around me when I am out in the wide open.)

Rolled out in the AM. Fished the pullout off of 80 above Hirshdale. First two casts out there in the deeper run netted two small rainbows. First one on the dry, next one on the trailer. I thought "AWESOME start to the day". Then nothing. Had a couple of rises, but no joy. Drove back into Truckee to get some brunch, saw the incredible traffic jam, and decided to go south. I have never stopped at Fanny Bridge, so I did. Those fish are TOO big.

Made it into South Lake, picked up the campfire permit at the Taylor Creek station. Big traffic there, too, so I back roaded over to Hwy 89 and went down to Hope Valley and the West Carson for the evening. I tried to find a small stream that Jeff C told me about, but only fed the mosquitos.

Back to the W. Carson and caught 3 brownies upstream of the 89 Bridge. Had another bigger fish swirl on my fly, but nada.

Home down 88 and the Mormon Immigrant Trail. No traffic!!

All in all, I declare this one a winner. No big numbers, no big fish, but a day and a half out and about without having to worry about time or any other pressure is a win. Next stop? Thursday evening on the Yuba, then somewhere else for the weekend.

Thanks for the update on MIT, Scott. I will be heading that way next week. Hoping for good flow levels on the East Carson.

[QUOTE=markem8;83292]Thanks for the update on MET, Scott.QUOTE]

Mine was a question, I am not sure if it is open yet, but I think Mao drove it and was hoping to hear from him. I hate having to go all the way up 50 to 89 to get to 88.

Yeah, no snow to be seen. Wide open. I was gonna take Silver Fork Road, but decided I didn't wanna end up on 50, so don't know if it was open.

It's a few days late but here's my report from Saturday. Got out on the water at about 8:15am parked at the lot just on the other side of Glenshire bridge. Walked upstream past a few folks to find the rest of the river all to myself. I used a standard nymph rig (they took a green zebra midge and pheasant tail nymph size 20) and hooked up about 12 fish landed 7, 3 of which were this weird looking thing 2 of them were 20" or so. Later found out it was a mountain whitefish. Landed rainbows of 10", 2 at 12" and 16"er. Found a perfect, deep run where I hooked the majority of the fish and lost 2 bows going 18" plus (I let em drift out of the pool into the white water). This was easily my best day on the river, any river. By 1:30 I headed back and called it a day. And thanks to BIGFLY for the tips on going with the small flies.
