I just got back from a week in Yellowstone. What a spectacular place! I fished parts of 4 days and while the rivers were high I still did pretty well. I also hiked into Grebe Lake and caught several grayling and some very colorful rainbows. Grebe was recommended by Arrick's Fly Shop in West Yellowstone when I told them that I wanted to catch a grayling.

One morning I got into a good PMD hatch on the Firehole River and had some excellent dry fly fishing. Did fairly well on the Madinson on another morning.

Here are a couple of pics:

Here is a closer shot of the falls. You can see people just to the right and top of the falls for a little more perspective.

Interesting. Always wanted to fish that lake for Graying. The trail to Grebe has been closed due to BEAR activity off and on this year.

Glad you got in there safely. On Friday, the park closed the Norris Camp Ground because of bears which is on the same drainage further west.

How was that trail into Grebe. Is it family friendly?

Thanks for posting. Nice pics.

The trail to Grebe is a very easy 3 mile hike. There is almost no elevation change. The lake is fairly large and the area near the bank was fairly shallow which had me concerned since I did not bring a tube, but it was not an issue. The fish were hanging close to shore and easy to catch. I put on a copper john under an indicator and never had to change flies. I could have probably switched to dries and had success as well but I did not have a lot of time and the wind was blowing in my face. In a little under 2 hours I probably got around 20-25 fish with about 3/4 of those being grayling and the rest rainbows (very colorful). We took Pepper Bear Spray but did not see any bears on the trip. We had the lake to ourselves, but we did run into a couple of people on the way in and out including a family of 4 with younger children.
