Well, with all the warm June weather and some free time, decided it was time to grab my 7 wt. rod and start hitting the Delta for some topwater bass action out of the inflatable kayak. I decided to fish for 'em exclusively with this fly I tied a few months ago, as I was curious how it would do. I did add eyeballs to it first, though.

Tried it out for a couple of sessions and found it fished really well and the bass seemed to like it just fine. :D Didn't get into anything worth bragging about but that's ok. Topwater hits at the beginning of the season always get me excited regardless how big the fish are. Here are pictures of a couple of the better ones:

These fish fought well and both were caught by tossing next to cover along the bank, pausing it for a few moments, then making it dive before pausing again.
The weather has been great but the winds have been something else. I arrived at one session with the wind so bad that I didn't even break out the bass rod. Instead, I spent the entire session hugging calmer waters and pestering these guys with my 2 wt. rod and a #12 hare's ear nymph:

Still, all in all fun times! Now if I can just get out there on a warm summer evening with no wind and my trusty red/white Tap's Bug. . . .
