I’m considering a two or three day fly fishing/camping trip in my drift boat on the Lower Klamath in August and am looking for some advice. Has anyone done the float from Weitchpec (or starting elsewhere) to the town of Klamath? Is that better as a two or a three day float if you want to allow time to work the better holes? What about starting the float on the Trinity and getting off the Klamath at the end of Hwy. 169 to avoid the long shuttle to the town of Klamath? Any suggestions for a shuttle? Thanks very much for any assistance.

I wouldn't leave your car anywhere near Weitchpec.........

I would suggest two things: First, make it a two or three night venture. That's a long haul in a drift boat and you are fishing after all, not rowing....

As far as the shuttle goes, what I have done in the past for shuttles in that area (as well as the Eel and a few other rivers) is to get in contact with one of the local (Klamath....Klamath Glen...Willow Creek...Hoopa?) churches and ask the "pastor" if there is someone in the congregation, or around town, that they trust to do it and make a few bucks. One time we even got the pastor himself from Alderpoint! It takes a little calling around but it has always worked for me.

I suppose you can also call the rafting companies and ask who/what they may know.

That is a long shuttle! My best guess would be to find someone that has a secure place along the route where they can keep an eye on your rig and have them meet you at a specified time in Klamath.

Careful which bars you set foot on......

rowing a driftboat down the trinity for your first time in august at low flows is not a good idea. There is some class III whitewater in there. As far as shuttles call pearsons store at the weitcepec bridge.
