The winds blew and blew hard. I was on the water this morning and a slight breeze until you got to the island. Once again a long ride to the bait but this morning it was bumpy/rough. After we got bait, we stayed around looking for some roosters but they must of still been a sleep.. So a few of us head to the Punta Northe. Reports of schools of dorado there yesterday. Now, you talk about a rough ride. After about 25 minutes of 8 second rides we made it to the north end. Three panga's went out further than the end of the island. Jonny and I headed to the west side of the island for some wind protection. We looked and most if not all the buoys in the channel and found "0". Some guys behind us checked the buoys and found a school of dorado. I guess you can say the 4 make a school.
After loading the gas tank for the third time, we headed toward the wreckage on the beach.
About 1/8 mile from the shore, I was half asleep from the rocking and I saw this mirage of a dorado chasing some bait. Jonny swung a BIG turn and the next thing I know, I was looking at water, waking up pretty damn quick. It wasn't a mirage it was a dorado. I had four shots at it and GONE. So we continued over venture to the wreck. Set up the boat for the drift and first cast, without any bait, I hooked into a jack. Small but it was a Jack. Hand lined the fish in and then the second cast another jack. The school was still there from a couple days ago. So three cast three fish, then Jose came in and the school departed. We then headed to the lighthouse in search of the BIG roosters. After drifting a little 3 big roosters showed there combs. You actually didn't need to use a casting stroke. Just hold the rod up and the motion of the waves would give you a cast. It was really rock'n and roll'n. About 4' rollers to the beach. It got bigger as we neared the beach, so a couple more cast and we're out of there.
Back to the launch area where I caught three more jacks before calling it quits.
Una mas dia.....
The winds this year has really been unusual. Never this windy in late May and June. I don't think it has anything to do with El Nino.
