I am lookin to do a back packing trip this July, probably only an overnighter as my lady and I have a 15 month old that will only handle one night away from mommy. But as she doesn't care too much as to where, as long as its pretty, I want to make sure I have a pretty good chance at landing a few Goldens. I was hoping some of you gentlemen could let me know of some overnighter you have done in the past that were successful and "pretty".

Ability Moderate to moderate strenous.
4-5 miles one way or a bit more.
camp fire would be nice but not necessary.

Thanks in advance guys!

There was an article in the last California Fly Fisherman about the upper Kern. That is a pretty tough outing and difficult over night. You might contact <www.kernrivertroutfitters.com> or Buz's 2 in Bakersfield about some closer more accessible places. I have frequented a place that is about a mile walk but the creek is two feet wide and there is some debate over whether the fish are hybrids. I doubt if that is what you are looking for.

All the places I know are at very high altitude and the hike would be very tough.
