Unsafe to wade, and muddy is how it's flowing.
Maybe OK above Alpine meadows.
It's tailwater time.
Flying Ants should show this week!

Jim-
The Big T looked UGLY when I was over that way scouting for a TU event. The LT was just the opposite, low and clear. The other creek was high but fishable but I understand that flows were jacked up yesterday.Stillwater action for me for a while.Come on over and fish Davis with me!
See you soon!

TC Lumber to River Ranch is fine. Little T is fine for the moment but Stampede will be spilling soon. Everyplace is big, brown, blown and beautiful - the riverbeds are getting a good healthy scrubbing. Lots of snow still in the hills and the commercial Truckee raft folks have been warned the river will be too high to run on July 4 (so sad).

Jay, Termites started hatching yesterday, Ants have to be close now!
They're out lower in the canyon, I'm trying to be patient.
Ralph, you try some march browns? Still seeing them on the water.
If I get the boat rolled out this week, Davis is on!

I saw big flying black ants or termites on Sunday near Fuller Lake.

Termites? Really? Do you have a good pattern for one? Post a pic if you got one. It seemed once Sac got it first days of hot 100 degree weather you could expect to see a good emergence of flying ants soon after in the Truckee area. Had some epic days on Milton with fly ant patterns.

If you see a termite you might want to call the Orkin Man.:D

BF---Yes indeed the BT is blown-out. The upside as Ralph implies is that the trout & forests need it.
Chris---Interesting that you mention Milton Lake and flying , black ants. In the past I too have experienced incredible days on Milton fly fishing Flying, Black Ants. So much so that I created the infamous Milton Monstrosity. I definitely am not a fly tyer, but this one I did create and it was an effective pattern when the first Big Bug of June appeared in the Truckee area. When they're here it could be fast & furious fly angling...then they are gone as quickly as they arrive. As for termites; my experience is that I see them in July.
Ralph wrote an interesting article on flying ants a decade-plus ago. I believe it appeared in the orginal Fly Fishing the West during the late '80's . It was about what he called "up-slope drift".
Ralph was that you or La Fontaine? If you; you can educate...if you wish.

PS----FYI, as of yesterday, thus far I have not personally seen any flying black ants. I've received hearsay of some up in one of the local valleys though

Frank, you have the memory of an elephant! That piece was written over 25 years ago an an Apple 2e - never migrated the files. There is some information about up-slope-blow-in here: http://www.flyline.com/places/ansel_adams/
